12/02/2014 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 2.3

The official release of OOFEM 2.3 is now available. New features include:

  • XFEM support for cracks in 2D including branch functions and coupling of cohesive zones with XFEM.
  • Support for Sets: Useable for boundary conditions, cross-sections.
  • FE^2 support for incompressible fluids with Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic boundary conditions.
  • Improved generic geometric nonlinearity, many elements are now supported.
  • New structural elements: 3D wedges, DKT plate element and plane stress element with vertex rotations.

08/02/2013 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 2.2

The development team is pleased to announce the official release 2.2 of OOFEM. New features include:

  • New Damage-plastic Rankine model, its gradient and nonlocal version and mixed elements for gradient damage-plasticity.
  • Implemented new SlipWithFriction, PenetrationWithResistance, OutFlowBC, and isotropic surface tension boundary conditions for flow models.

30/11/2012 - OOFEM version controll system migrated from svn to Git

  • Based on many request from the community of developpers, OOFEM is now using the Git distributed version control system.

22/12/2011 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 2.1

The official release of OOFEM 2.1 is now available. New features include:

28/03/2011 - Announcing trac@oofem

Every application has bugs – as long as humans write code. Every project needs the participation of its users to identify bugs, as well as to plan for new features.

We are happy to announce the availability of the bug tracking system, based on Trac project. All types of feedback – whether they're genuine bugs or feature requests – are to be reported using trac ticket system.

10/01/2011 - unv2oofem tool released

The new unv2oofem convertor translates unv-mesh (SRDC's I-DEAS) file format to native OOFEM input file. Unv file-type is an open ASCII datafile, which is used by several finite element codes. For example, this tool allows to use open-source SALOME pre-processor to prepare oofem model.

20/11/2010 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 2.0

The development team is pleased to announce the official release of OOFEM 2.0. New features include:

  • New library for elastic homogenization now includes elastic homogenization schemes, such as Mori-Tanaka or self-consistent ones.
  • Many new material models: model for cement hydration, based on CEMHYD3D model, damage-plastic model for concrete concreteDPM, hyperelastic material (for large strain), anisotropic plastic-damage model (for trabecular bone), isotropic elastoplastic material with Mises yield condition (large-strain plasticity). Many enhancements of existing models.
  • Added Isogeometric analysis module. New inpterpolation classes for B-spline and NURBS surfaces and solids. New plane stress and 3d IGA elements for structural analysis.

28/07/2009 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.9

The official release of OOFEM 1.9 is now available. New features include:

  • Adaptive, parallel jobs with dynamic load balancing are supported.
  • New subdivision algorithm for parallel remeshing on tringular and tetrahedral meshes
  • Added generic XFEM support
  • Arbitrary component numbering for nodes and elements
  • Elements can be inserted/removed during analysis
  • Added interface to SLEPc, the Scalable Library for Eigenvalue Problem Computations

03/03/2008 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.8

12/11/2007 - Project Wiki launched!

  • Launched project Wiki, aimed to promote collaboration between OOFEM users and to provide a knowledge base that can be used and extended by its users. Have a look on it, use it, and contribute to it!

02/03/2007 - New Forum and SVN access available!

  • I'm pleased to announce the availability of anonymous, read-only, public access to the OOFEM Subversion repositories. That way you can pick up any version (including releases) of OOFEM that is in our repository or our web pages and it also allows you to get the actual development version. Read more here.
  • New forum has been created with several categories. Registering on forum gets you access to post new messages, get support, and much more. The forum is available at http://www.oofem.org/forum.

04/11/2006 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.7

The official release of OOFEM 1.7 is now available.

  • Added new solution algorithm for incompressible flow with SUPG/PSPG stabilization.
  • Added support for incompressible analysis of two immiscible fluids (including free surface flows) on a fixed domain in 2D, based on VOF approach.
  • Added new Direct Sparse Solver (contributed by R. Vondracek). Use --enable-dss when running configure.

28/10/2005 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.6

The official release of OOFEM 1.6 is now available. A quick summary of the new features in this version:

  • Adaptive framework released. This includes new classes representing general error estimator, remeshing criteria and mesh generator interface. The adaptive linear and nonlinear static analyses are now available. True adaptivity with primary and internal variables transfer is supported.
  • Added new FM module (Fluid dynamic). It now includes CBS algorithm for incompressible transient flow analysis, constitutive model for Newtonian fluid, and linear 2d element with equal order velocity and pressure interpolation.
  • Implementation of MDM model (Anisotropic damage model).
  • Introduced new keywords in domain components size record! This includes ndofman, nelem, nmat, ncrosssect, nbc, nltf to identify number of domain components. See Input Manual for details.

16/04/2004 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.5

A quick summary of the new features in this version:

  • Implemented serial and parallel interface to PETSC library
  • Linear and nonlinear static analyses can be run in parallel (requires PETSC support).
  • New mesage and error reporting. It support diferent log levels, filtering, multiple log objects, and counters for errors and warnings.
  • Improved and enhanced documentation.

20/05/2003 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.4

Compared to the previous release (1.3) this new version has major enhancements in the following areas:

  • New tm module for solving transport problems. Current capabilities include stationary and transient (linear and nonlinear) analysis of heat and coupled heat and mass transfer problems for axisymmetric, two, and three dimensional cases.
  • Implemented general staggered problem, which allows to group basic problems together and to transfer and share the solution fields between basic subproblems.
  • Added new classes for FE interpolations and stress and strain vectors facilitating implemantations of new elements and material models.
  • Added interface to serial version of SPOOLES sparse direct solver http://www.netlib.org/linalg/spooles/.
  • Improved parsing of input files. Non-relevant tokens are detected and reported.

10/12/2001 - Official Release of OOFEM, version 1.3

Compared to the previous release (1.2) this new version has major enhancements in the following areas:

  • Redesigned the input data parsing. Significantly improved the checking of input syntax.
  • Implemented direct load/displacement control. The non-linear problem can be solved under direct control, indirect control, or their combination.
  • Implemented new efficient algorithm with significantly less memory requirements for internal structure allocation of coordinate based sparse matrices.
  • Added support for VTK data export.
  • Improved layer object removal and fixed the graphics flickering for several render modes in oofeg (post-processor).
  • New source directory structure.

06/06/2001 - The first public release of OOFEM, version 1.2 (under GNU GPL license) is available

  • Added links to program features and gallery, summarizing the OOFEM capabilities and illustrating some results
  • Draft of Material Model Library Manual HTML (online) and PostScript. It describes the available material models and format of their input records.

08/10/1999 - EXTRACTOR tool available

  • Draft of EXTRACTOR Input Data Format Specification is now available in HTML (online) and PostScript. It describes the input file format for extractor package, which is a package for automatic extraction of user-defined values from OOFEM output file.

14/04/1999

  • Draft of POOFEM Input Data Format Extension Specification is now available in HTML (online) and PostScript. It describes the input file format extension for parallel analysis support.
  • Implemented parallel support for explicit dynamic computations. The parallelization is based on MPI message passing library. There are some interesting results available online.
  • There is t3d2oofem package available (written by Daniel Rypl). It converts T3d output to OOFEM input. The partitioning for parallel computations is supported by a t3d2poofem clone and is done using METIS library.
